1000 hits and racism

November 15, 2007 at 12:17 am (black, blogs, idiots, lines to cross, offensive, politically correct, racism, read my mind, views, white)

so, i went over 1000 views today. thanks to those of you that read my mind daily. it took me a while to get to 1000, but we made it.

now, for the second half of my title. first off, let me say that i believe we are getting too politically correct these days. people get scrutinized for every word that they say. we need to lighten up. i like to joke with my friends about a lot of stuff. some of my closest friends are black, so we make little jokes to each that would probably be considered socially unacceptable. but tonight this dude went overboard. just like he usualy does. we were joking around and he made some kinda joke about a neuse in his trunk. obviously that brought the tables laughter to a hault. why are people idiots? i get tired of the whole p.c. thing but, it’s people like this guy that make it necessary.

i guess we all have our lines we won’t cross. some people probably think i say all kinds of offensive things

It’s a small world………..after all

November 3, 2007 at 12:02 am (activities, americans, band, better, blogs, bounty hunter, closed-minded, comfort, conversation, english, food, ford, growth, habit, hi-hat, homework, ignorance, learn, mcdonalds, new, open-minded, overseas, racist, self, star spangled banner)

this is a message to myself. get out of your own little world. your own little world doesn’t do you any good.

we are so closed minded. even open minded people aren’t really all the way open (kinda like a hi-hat)
if we didn’t get in our little boxes a lot of things would be better.

i started thinking about this yesterday, when all i heard about was the bounty hunter guy and his racist phone conversation. obviously, he doesn’t go around talking like that all the time. he was in his comfort zone, being himself. making ignorant comments because of his little box.

i hate going overseas and seeing americans get frustrated at someone who doesn’t speak good english. we think everyone should speak english, eat at mcdonalds, drive a ford, and sing the star spangled banner.

sure, it’s easy to be comfortable. but if you don’t open yourself up, you can’t grow. i’m giving you some homework this time

1. try something new ( food, activity, change in habit)
2. meet someone new, and have a conversation. someone who is different than you. you’d be surprised what you can learn

Plans…….

October 27, 2007 at 10:38 pm (basketball, blogs, boat, change, chick flick, chicken, dan in real life, date, family, fantasy, fishing, future, hobbies, importance, job, kids, life, living, love, money, movie, plans, redfish, school, stuff, surprises, time, wife, work)

today i woke up at 5:30 to be in a redfish tourneyment. we didn’t start fishing until 8:00. that’s not a good start. i caught a few, but no keepers. my father-in-law came out some time around noon. he parked 30 yards from me and within 1/2 hour landed a 21 inch red. (he wasn’t fishing the tourney) i got home just in time for my fantasy basketball draft. i like my team, we’ll see how the season plays out. then i ate chicken. afterwards me, my wife, and marvin went on a date to see “Dan In Real Life”. i thought it was cool (kinda a chick flick). at the end he said something like….we like to ask our kids what their plans are in life. what we should say is, “be ready for surprises. prepare for your plans to change”.

i thought that was a great line. i’m not saying don’t think about the future, but don’t loose sleep if you don’t know what you’re gonna do about something. i don’t think i can say there is one aspect of my life that i expected 7 years ago. not one. but i couldn’t have asked for better.

I read…..

September 18, 2007 at 5:43 pm (blogs, car, class, coffee, family, house, job, life, living, school, time, work)

I read this blog today that was pretty cool. So, I decided to steal it. This girl told a story about a demonstration in her class.

Her teacher put a big, empty mayo jar on the desk. Then he filled it with golf balls. He asked the class if it was full. They said “yes”. Then he poured pebbles in until it was full. He said, “Is it full now?” They said “yes.” Then he poured sand in until it was full. He asked one more time if it was full. The class said “yes” again. After he poured two cups of coffee in he said, this mayo jar represents your life. The golf balls represent the important things like your family and friends. If you only have them, your life is full. The pebbles represent the things like your job, your house, and your car. Not as important. The sand represents the little thing that fill up your time.

You can fill your life with the little things, or even the stuff that seems important but, you won’t have any room for the golf balls.

So make sure your golf balls fill your life.

A student asked what the coffee represented and the teacher responded, “I’m glad you asked. Even when your life seems full, there’s always time to have a cup of coffee with friends.”

A little hint…..

September 13, 2007 at 11:05 pm (band, bass guitar, bible, blogs, church, crave, drums, fan, guitar, hate, hobbies, importance, kids, life, living, love, music, prayer, sex, stuff, teenagers, time, venting, work, worship)

the kick drum and bass guitar are best friends. they enjoy being together. they’re like peas and carrots. so, if you ask a band to play something, please don’t have the drummer jam out and tell the bass player not to play. it sounds empty.

sorry, i’m sure no one reading this understands what i’m talking about. i’m just venting a little. I just left a service at crave

the speaker was interesting. everyone i talked to either loved him or hated him. i’ve never heard that kind of response before. Usually people are in the middle. oh well, off to bed…….

Felix………

September 3, 2007 at 6:16 pm (ankle, blogs, boat, cruise, falls, family, felis, felix, grand cayman, hobbies, hula-hoop, hurricane, injury, karaoke, life, living, money, music, nassau, ocho rios, stuff, time, vacation, waterfalls, wife, work)

well…….we were supposed to go to Grand Cayman tomorrow.  But hurricane Felix beat us there.  So tomorrow we will be at sea.  We will hit Nassau on wednesday instead.

we were in ocho rios today.  we walked up the dunn river falls today.  my ankle didn’t give out.  but i did fall 3 times because of it.  i felt like an old lady.  no one told me that you actually walk up the middle of the falls.  good times so far.  jen won 3rd place in a hula-hoop contest yesterday (she shoulda at least won second, she hooped against the best in the semis)  we are gonna enter in the karaoke contest tonight.  I’ll be in a hold em’ tourney tomorrow.

thanks for keeping up with my blog while i’m gone, be home soon.

p.s. —  everyone always talks about how cruises are great cause everything is paid for.  everything costs extra…………

I love it when we’re cruisin’

August 31, 2007 at 9:22 pm (NFL, ankle, blogs, boat, computer, cruise, espn, fantasy, fishing, football, hobbies, injury, life, living, sex, sports, stuff, vacation, work)

I’ll have to admit it. I like that song. Remember when Huey Lewis and Gweneth Paltrow did it for the movie Duets?

So I am headed to Ft. Lauderdale first thing in the morning. Going on a cruise. So my blog will have to take a week off. For my 15 faithfulls, I’ll miss you. Maybe if I talk about sex when I get back my hits will stay up.

Hopefully my ankle won’t give out in mid cruise. I feel like I shouldn’t go. I’ve been out of work for almost 2 weeks because of my ankle.

Fantasy update……..I only drafted 1 player that I had my eye on. I think my team is gonna be o.k. Somehow, the computer glitched and auto-picked michael vick for me. I wonder how many points you get for jail time???

Off to the boat

…and I can’t wait

August 30, 2007 at 9:39 pm (NFL, blogs, coin, computer, espn, excersize, fan, fantasy, football, help, hobbies, homework, importance, injury, life, living, math, money, pity, research, season, sex, sports, stuff, time)

Tomorrow night is our fantasy football draft. I was so unprepared last year. I think I did my homework this year. I understand it’s just a coin toss; anyone can get hurt, and anyone can have a break-out season. But, I’m ready.

If everyone stays close to what ESPN projects, I think I will have a very competitive team. I have pick 5 out of 12. I was bummed at first because I didn’t want to be in the middle. After a little research and some math, I think I’ll be okay.

as you can tell, i’m easily excited.

something i learned

August 30, 2007 at 9:32 pm (blogs, help, importance, life, living, pity, sex, stuff)

I guess we all know that the more categories you put your blog in, the more hits you get. Well try putting sex as one of your categories. That boosted my hits big-time. I guess that proves my point in my blog “4 things”.
